Teheran, G-Braves blank Mud Hens

TOLEDO, OHIO -- Julio Teheran matched his career high in innings pitched and fanned a season-high 11 batters in leading the Gwinnett Braves to a 2-0 win over the Toledo Mud Hens Thursday.

With the win Gwinnett (32-28) remained in second place, only one game behind the Durham Bulls for the International League South division lead.

Teheran (6-1) threw 102 pitches, 69 for strikes, and di not walk a batter. Jairo Asencio came in for the save in the ninth inning striking out two and walking one for his eighth save.

The Braves got a two-out double from Mauro Gomez in the top of the 6th inning and Jeff Fiorentino singled driving in Gomez to give Teheran all he would need. Jose Constanza extended his hitting streak to seven games with a 1-for-3 performance. He also stole a base and had a sacrifice.

Ed Lucas was the only G-Braves to have a multi-hit game. He finished the night going 2-for-5 with an RBI and a SB.

The G-Braves go for the sweep against the Mud Hens on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. at Fifth Third Field. Mike Minor (3-2, 2.23) is scheduled to start for the G-Braves against Ramon Garcia (0-3, 5.03) for the Mud Hens. The game can be heard on the home of the G-Braves, 550AM/ 102.9FM WDUN.
