LAGRANGE - Authorities say a woman who had come to Georgia to make a new life after Hurricane Katrina was killed by a rock slung through the windshield of a car.

Troup County Sheriff Donny Turner said the vehicle was northbound on U.S. 27 Wednesday afternoon while a Department of Transportation tractor was mowing.

The sheriff said a rock was slung from under the tractor, traveling through the windshield and striking the woman, who was a back-seat passenger.

Troup County Coroner Jeff Cook identified the woman as 58-year-old Annie Lee of LaGrange. He said Lee had moved to the area to make a new life after Hurricane Katrina, and her family plans to take her body back to Louisiana to be buried.
