Highs around the state on Tuesday were mostly in the 90s, and more of the same is expected today. The average high in north Georgia this time of the year ranges from the upper 70s to the lower 80s, meaning most places are running 10-12 degrees higher than normal.
Tuesday was the twelfth straight day of above normal temperatures in Gainesville.
There is only a slight chance of showers the rest of the week in Georgia and a new report released Tuesday says the drought in the state continues to worsen. (See separate story.)
Meanwhile, air quality in and around Atlanta is expected to be moderate, with an air quality index of 100, just short of the level considered unhealthy for sensitive groups.
