County officials say they are faced with an $11.5 million budget shortfall and county commission chairman Tom Oliver said last week he favors a tax increase to offset drastic cutbacks in personnel and services.
Commissioner Scott Gibbs will host the town hall meeting Thursday night at 7:00 at the Hood Center on Hulsey Road in Clermont.
"I want to hear what citizens have to say about the budget. I welcome their input," Gibbs said.
Commission chairman Tom Oliver said last week a 1.41 mill tax increase is needed to offset drastic cutbacks in personnel and services.
The county is in the process of drafting a budget for fiscal year 2012. The proposed spending plan will be published on June 2. A presentation and public hearing will take place during the Board of Commissioners meeting on June 9 at 6:00 at the Georgia Mountains Center.
The budget and millage rate must be approved before the fiscal year begins July 1. Three public hearings will be scheduled if a tax increase is proposed.
