Cherokee County and state rescuers searched for a man after he disappeared in Lake Allatoona Friday night. The search was to resume Monday.
Acworth police say 34-year-old Gregory Edelin of Fairburn was swimming in Lake Allatoona Saturday when he disappeared for several minutes. They say Edelin was found and was pronounced dead at WellStar Kennestone Hospital.
Hall County authorities say 17-year-old Quavante Combs was reported missing in a cove near Burton Mill Park on Lake Lanier on Saturday. They say rescue workers pulled Combs from the lake after he was under water for nearly 20 minutes. Rescue teams were unable to revive him.
Meanwhile, the state Department of Natural Resources reports that boating activity on Lanier during this holiday weekend so far has been relatively quiet.
Spokeswoman Melissa Cummings says for the first two days there were three BUI's and two boating incidents. No injuries were reported in the incidents.
Cummings also said there was an incident on Lake Hartwell in which a woman got hit in the head with a jet ski. She was taken to the emergency room for stitches.
Throughout the state, according to Cummings, there have been 24 BUIs and eleven boating incidents, six of those with injuries. None of the injuries were life-threatening. Cummings added that during the first two days of this year's holiday weekend, there have been more BUIs and boating incidents than last year's three-day total, when the weather, for most of the period, was wet and cool.
