GAINESVILLE - Gainesville police will begin closing streets at 9:00 Monday for the annual Memorial Day Parade down Green Street.

Spokesman Kevin Holbrook said E.E. Butler Parkway, Green Street and Ronnie Green Parkway will be "completely closed" from Jesse Jewell Parkway to Glenwood Drive "except for parade participants."

In addition, all side streets and driveways "between those locations will be closed in close proximity to Green Street." Additionally, there will be "traffic control points" at Park Hill Drive at South Enota and Thompson Bridge Road at Enota "detouring the primary southbound traffic flow."

He said the parade is expected to be over by noon and "once all parade participants complete the parade route, we will begin the process of opening all locations to motorists."

The parade will begin at 10:00 at First Baptist Church on Green.
Part of the crowd that turned out for the 2009 parade. Last year's was called off because of rain.
