The Braves (25-22) won Game 1, 6-1, for their third win in a row. The Bisons (21-28) came back to win Game 2, 3-1
The Braves clinched a Game 1 victory when Gwinnett scored four runs in the first inning off of Bisons starter D.J. Carrasco -- the big blow coming on a two-run homer by Brandon Hicks, his fifth of the season.
The Bisons bounced back in Game 2 to score three runs in the bottom of the second off of Braves starter Yohan Flande. The Braves had taken a 1-0 lead in the top of that inning.
Erik Cordier started game one and had a solid outing. His line: 4.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R/ER, 3 BB, 3 K's. RHP Juan Abreu (2-0) got the win: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R/ER, 2 K's. RHP Jaye Chapman pitched a scoreless seventh. In game two, LHP Yohan Flande (2-1) started and got his first loss of the season. His line: 4.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 K's. RHP Anthony Varvaro pitched a scoreless fifth with one strikeout; and RHP Jairo Asencio a scoreless sixth with one hit and one strikeout.
In game one, the G-Braves reached double-digit hits for the fifth straight game with 10. LF Jose Constanza, CF Matt Young, and 2B Ed Lucas each had two hits. SS Brandon Hicks went 1-for-3 with a two run homer. Lucas also drove in two runs. In game two, the G-Braves got six hits. Hicks went 1-for-2 to up his batting streak to six games. C Wilkin Castillo went 2-for-3; and he has now hit safely in 10 straight games.
Gwinnett and Buffalo play another doubleheader Sunday in Buffalo. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. Braves RHP Todd Redmond (3-4, 2.30) and RHP Steven Shell (0-0, 3.00) are scheduled to face RHP Brian Sweeney (1-3, 7.59) and TBA for the Bisons.
