Ga. Water Supply Task Force subcommittees to meet in Gainesville

ATLANTA - The Technology and Finance Subcommittees of the state's new Water Supply Task Force will meet Thursday in Gainesville at the Georgia Mountains Center and hear from a panel of local government water experts.

The meeting will begin at 9:00.

The first session, conducted by the Technology Subcommittee, will last from 9:00-10:30. A joint subcommittee session will run from 10:30-12:00. The Finance Subcommittee's part of the meeting will be held between 1:00-2:30.

In January , Gov. Nathan Deal directed the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority (GEFA) to develop and launch the Governor' s Water Supply Program. The purpose of the program, according to the task force's Web site, is to "align and mobilize the resources of the state of Georgia to assist local governments with developing new sources of water supply adequate to meet future water demand forecasts."

The committee members include:

F. Allen Barnes, Director, Georgia Environmental Protection Division
Kevin Clark, Executive Director, Georgia Environmental Finance Authority
Lauren Curry, Director of Public Affairs, Georgia Department of Natural Resources
Brent Dykes, Executive Director, Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission
Phil Foil, Deputy Commissioner, Georgia Department of Community Affairs
Sydne Moody, Policy Adviser, Georgia Department of Agriculture
Susan Hart Ridley, Director, Financing & Investment Division, Georgia State Financing & Investment Commission
Marvin Woodward, Deputy State Property Officer, State Properties Commission

The local government panelists scheduled to participate are:

Melvin Davis, Chairman, Oconee County Board of Commissioners
Jack Dozier, Executive Director, Georgia Association of Water Professionals
Bill Lewis, City Manager, City of Dahlonega
Kelly Randall, Director, City of Gainesville, Public Utilities Department
Tony Rojas, Executive Director, Macon Water Authority

Both subcommittee meetings will include a public comment period. Comments will be limited to three minutes per person.
