FLOWERY BRANCH - Flowery Branch has joined the list of cities in counties in Georgia planning a November referendum on the Sunday sales of alcoholic beverages. The city council gave the okay Thursday night.

Council also discussed the proposed budget, which Mayor Mike Miller says is 10.3 percent less than this year's $5.5 million spending plan, and he says it would not require a tax increase, nor does it include plans for unpaid employee furloughs.

The council also voted to hire Marja Burney, who is now with the City of Lilburn, to replace Melissa McCain as city clerk. McCain resigned earlier this year to take a job as city clerk in Doraville.
