CLEVELAND -- Truett-McConnell College will add a women's volleyball program to its athletic department this fall. Assistant softball coach, Kevia Elkins, will lead the new squad.

The Lady Bears will not play a league schedule or compete for the postseason in their inaugural campaign.

Truett athletic director Chris Eppling is excited about the new program.

"I'm thrilled to have the enhanced involvement of Coach Elkins," Eppling said.

Elkins says she wants to build a great foundation through good communication and by setting an expectation.

"If you can get everyone on the same page, then as athletes and competitors, the rest should happen. I want the athletes to come out of volleyball, after four years, feeling like they were a part of a competitive program, and I want them to feel like it was the best years of their life," stated Elkins.

The coach is currently in the process of gathering equipment and says a tryout date will be announced soon. Several TMC students have already expressed interest in participating in volleyball and Elkins has also begun recruiting.

The announcement comes days after the school announced it will also initiate a wrestling program.
