ATLANTA - The Georgia Department of Transportation has awarded 26 new contracts valued in excess of $92 million for transportation improvement projects across the state, including the resurfacing of Georgia Highway 365 in Hall and Habersham counties.

"The Department is moving aggressively into its RoadWorks2011 summer construction program," DOT Commissioner Vance C. Smith, Jr., said. "These projects, along with several already underway and more than $150 million in additional work scheduled to be awarded in early June, will add new capacity and make critical maintenance improvements to Georgia s transportation system. We ask for motorists patience as this work progresses."

The resurfacing of Georgia 365 involves nearly 21 miles of work from south of State Route 52 near Lula to just south of U.S. 441/State Route 17 near Cornelia. C.W. Matthews Contracting Co., Inc., of Marietta was the low bidder with a bid of $19.2 million. The work is expected to be completed by June 30, 2012.

Other northeast Georgia projects included in the bid letting are in Banks, Stephens, Barrow, Dawson, Elbert, Hart, and Rabun and Habersham counties (resurfacing of various streets in Alto, Baldwin, Clarkesville, Cornelia, Dillard, Mt. Airy and various county roads). Also in Jackson, Lumpkin, Madison, Towns, Union and White counties. Click on the link below for full details.
