DAHLONEGA - North Georgia College & State University (NGCSU) and the Dahlonega Arts Council will present "Rodin: The Figure in Bronze," a show of 24 posthumous original bronze sculptures by Auguste Rodin beginning Saturday and continuing through July 10 in the school's Library Technology Center.

Auguste Rodin was a master sculptor in human forms and anatomy and during his lifetime was widely recognized as the greatest sculptor of the era, and was compared to Michelangelo. The exhibit - admission is free - will showcase one of Rodin's most famous works, The Kiss (1885), along with several other notable bronzes such as The Hand of The Great Thinker (1903) and The Age of Bronze (1876).

"The Rodin exhibition brings to North Georgia sculpture of tremendous beauty by a world-famous artist," said Dr. Pam Sachant, head of North Georgia's visual art department. "Working with our community partners, we are excited to have an exhibition of such importance at the university and to have the opportunity to share art of this caliber."

The 24 works are examples of the various forms, shapes and sizes of the human figure. The posthumous original bronzes are cast from authenticated molds and plasters following the metallurgical formulations and patina finishing approaches used by Rodin, the Alexi Rudier Foundry, George Rudier and family, and other sources. Each sculpture has been examined and certified by experts to conform to bronzes cast in Rodin's lifetime.

The works displayed are part of The Masters Edition Collection and will be on loan from the Twenty 21 Collections/Gallery Rodin in Atlanta.

The hours for the exhibit are 10:00-6:00, Monday-Thursday; 11:00-4:00 Fridays; 10:00-4:00 Saturdays; and, 1:00-5:00 Sundays.

During the course of the exhibit, the university will host several cultural and educational events related to the sculptures and the artist. For information, phone 706-864-1547 or visit northgeorgia.edu/rodin.
