Dogs pitch shutout of Arkansas

ATHENS -- Georgia pitchers allowed five hits between them and Peter Verdin had two RBIs to help lead Georgia to a 3-0 Southeastern Conference victory over Arkansas.

The Bulldogs (29-12, 10-10 SEC) took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on Verdin's RBI single. Two innings later, he hit an RBI groundout and Levi Hyams added a run-scoring single to push the score to 3-0.

Verdin finished 2-for-3 and Hyams was 1-for-3 on the day.

Michael Palazzone (8-1) allowed four hits and struck out five in eight innings Saturday. Tyler Maloof allowed one hit in one inning of relief for his 15th save.

Randall Fant (1-3) suffered the loss, allowing eight hits and all three runs in 7 2-3 innings for the Razorbacks (23-21, 12-8).
