GAINESVILLE - Now you can follow Hall County Fire Services (HCFS) on Twitter to receive real-time emergency and severe weather alerts.

Fire Chief David Kimbrell and Fire Marshal Scott Cagle will tweet about major incidents that may impact Hall County residents. They say the updates will enhance public safety by allowing followers to steer clear of major traffic incidents, prepare for severe weather, and brush up on fire safety tips.

"This is a quick, free way for us to let people know important information to keep their families safe and maybe save them some time fighting traffic. Twitter is gaining popularity, so we hope to develop a strong following and make our county safer," Chief Kimbrell said.

The new @HallCoFire is part of Hall County Government's communications strategy to increase use of social media as a means of directly reaching out to residents. County officials say because of its immediacy and condensed messaging format (140 characters), Twitter particularly lends itself well to emergency communications.
