Baseball: Knights beat Oconee in rain-shortened game

OAKWOOD -- Johnson dealt Oconee County a serious blow to its region 8-AAA playoff chances with a 7-3 win at Johnson Field Friday.

The game was called after the fifth inning because of rain with leading.

Chris White earned the win scattering nine hits.

Logan Pethel drove in six runs with a bases loaded double and a single for the Knights (10-11, 9-10 in region). A.J Benefield and Win Griffith each had three hits for Johnson which has won two straight games.

The loss dropped Oconee County (13-7, 12-6) into fifth place with six games left in the season. It won't be an easy for the Warriors, who play host to No. 6 gainesville on Monday and then travel to No. 7 White County on Wednesday.

White County and Gainesville are tied for the region lead.
