JEFFERSON - The state Department of Community Affairs has awarded Jefferson and Jackson County a $300,000 grant to help a chemical manufacturer rebuild after a fire.

H. Wilson Manufacturing Co. has been operating out of a rented building since a fire ripped through its plant in May.

Since the fire, the company has been operating out of a rented building. It will use the grant, along with $440,000 in private funding, to set up shop in a new 8,500-square-foot building in an industrial park near Georgia Highway 82.

Jefferson City Manager John Ward says the new facility will accommodate 10 additional workers along with the 20 who worked at the old plant.
