Gainesville RMA cadet accepted by West Point

GAINESVILLE - Riverside Military Academy (RMA) Cadet MAJ Andrew M. Olson of Gainesville has been accepted by the U.S. Military Academy. C/MAJ Olson, who has attended Riverside since 2007, is the Battalion Operations and Training Officer (S-3) for the RMA Corps of Cadets.

Olson, the son of Dr. and Mrs. Richard Olson of Gainesville, is one of 1,200 applicants selected for an appointment from over 16,000 student applications.

He is a member of the Horton Society, one of Riverside's oldest and most prestigious organizations, which was named in honor of Col. O.R. Horton. The society embraces school spirit and seeks to emulate the highest ideals of integrity and selfless service. He is also a member of the National Honor Society in which he earned a membership by demonstrating the qualities held in high esteem by the society: scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

C/MAJ Olson participates as a member of the Raider team at Riverside. The Raider team is a group of 12 men who must be motivated to display teamwork, physical fitness, and discipline while performing various physical tasks in competition with other teams. He is also a member of the Drill team, or Fusiliers, which participates in competitive programs to demonstrate precision drill and ceremony skills.
