Tennis: Johnson girls get past Gainesville

GAINESVILLE -- The Johnson girls tennis team squeaked out a big Region 8B-AAA win over Gainesville Tuesday at Longwood Park.

The Lady Knights won two of the three singles matches with Cady Nix beating Morgan Mercer 7-5, 6-3 at No. 1 and Maggie Turner knocking off Brinkley Frankum 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. Gainesville's Karina Rivera beat Lauren Carter 6-4, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.


Gainesville also got a win at No. 2 doubles when Mady Wuest and Suzanne Smith rallied for 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles. Johnson's No. 1 doubles team of Claire Crain and Harlee Robson whipped Martha McKinnon and Kate Callahan 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles to seal the win.
