4 announce plans to run for Jackson Co. sheriff

JEFFERSON - Jackson County Sheriff Stan Evans recently said he does not plan not to run for re-election next year and already four people have announced plans to run for the post.

According to the Athens Banner-Herald, they are: Janis Mangum, a detective with the sheriff's department; Andy Garrison, director of the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Athens; Sgt. Cain Tate, a Barrow County sheriff's deputy; and Athens-Clarke County police detective Ronnie Norris.

Evans has been sheriff of Jackson County for 26 years. He was 25 when he was first elected.
