UNDATED - Between one and two inches of rain fell in many spots across northeast Georgia over the weekend and now frost and freezing temperatures have settled in across the region.

Rainfall at Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport in Gainesville was typical of the area, 1.57 inches for the weekend.

The rains helped push the level of Lake Lanier to 1070.88 early Monday, half-a-foot higher than it was just a week ago.

Once the rains ended about noon Sunday, strong winds ushered in much colder weather, sending temperatures to at or near freezing in many places this morning and there is some frost, as well.

The National Weather Service issued advisories yesterday warning that tender vegetation and budding trees and plants could be severaly damaged or killed by this morning's frost and freeze. (See separate story.)
