GAINESVILLE - An Army Reserve unit from Gainesville which returned from Afghanistan last fall will get an official "welcome home" Saturday during a 2:00 ceremony at Lakewood Baptist Church on Thompson Bridge Road.

The reservists will leave by bus about 1:30 from their training center on Shallowford Road, headed to the church with a police and sheriff's department escort.

The official "welcome home" was delayed until now, according to Ron Kellner of Operation Patriot's Call, to give the citizen-soldiers time to get re-acclimated to civilian life. Gov. Nathan Deal is among the public officials expected to be on hand for the ceremony.

Ninth District Cong. Tom Graves was to have been there, as well, but he has cleared his schedule for several days while he recovers at his home in Ranger from a broken ankle. (See separate story.)
