JEFFERSON - The company that owns a Jackson County factory that makes metal wall studs for commercial construction projects says the plant will shut down this spring, leaving about 60 employees without jobs.

ClarkWestern Building Systems, based in Ohio, merged with another Ohio-based metal stud company, Dietrich Metal Framing, at the beginning of the year.

Dietrich closed seven plants, while ClarkWestern is closing only its Jefferson plant. ClarkDietrich's Georgia operations now will be located at Dietrich's McDonough plant, which is larger.

Todd Barnett, vice-president of human resources for the combined company ClarkDietrich, says management

will begin laying off the workers in phases starting in April, Barnett said. Some employees may hold their jobs through the spring, and some may be given the option to transfer to the McDonough plant.
