ATHENS - Authorities say an Athens man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole after police say he set his girlfriend on fire.
Clarke County Superior Court Judge Steve Jones on Tuesday sentenced Phillip Scruggs to life in prison after a jury found him guilty of killing Elissa Denise ``Lisa'' Davenport.
Authorities say Scruggs doused Davenport with a flammable liquid, and set her on fire inside her apartment in August 2009. She died 12 days later with burns that covered about 60 percent of her body.
