GAINESVILLE - More grass and woods fires were reported over the weekend in north Georgia and the forest fire danger remains high today.

There were several small grass and woods fires in Hall County Saturday and yesterday, only one of them, according to Fire Chief David Kimbrell, would be considered "significant."

Kimbrell said that fire consumed about eight acres on Saturday and occurred on Will Wallace Road. He says it is believed to have started from a "controlled burn that got out of control."

Brisk winds and low humidities are expected to keep the danger of grass and woods fires high again today. The greatest danger is from mid-morning until early evening in all of north Georgia and most of central Georgia.

The National Weather Service (NWS) says sustained winds of 15 mph or greater can be expected along with gusts of 20 to 25 mph. Relative humidity will stay above 25
percent.

With dry underbrush and other vegetation "high fire danger conditions can be expected," according to the NWS.

"Please refer to your local burn permitting authorities concerning
whether you may burn outdoors," the NWS said. "If you do burn outside, use extreme caution."
