CARNESVILLE -- The Chestatee girls basketball team established a new school record for wins in a season, and sealed the No. 1 seed from Region 8A-AAA with a 44-38 win over Franklin County Friday night.

The Lady War Eagles (21-4, 9-1 in Region 8A-AAA) held Franklin County scoreless in the third quarter to blow the game open. Chestatee led 25-16 at halftime but used an 11-0 third period to pull away for a 36-16 lead.

The Lady Lions mounted a late rally outscoring Chestatee 22-8 in the fourth quarter but could get no closer than the final score.

Peyton Robertson had another huge game for Chestatee with 14 points and nine rebounds. Rachel Kelly added 10 points and six rebounds and Emily Crain had nine points for the Lady War Eagles.

Chestatee earned a bye in the first round of the upcoming Region 8-AAA Tournament and will not play until Wednesday at home against a yet-to-be-determined opponent.
