Tom Walter with Gainesville State said the decision to stop requiring SAT scores was somewhat of an experiment.
"The concern at that point in time was that some students have difficulty with standardized exams and there's some students who, financially, it's difficult to pay the cost," he said.
Walter said the pilot program, which focused heavily on a student's GPA, expires this year. He said Gainesville State College President Martha Nesbitt decided to reinstate the test as an admission requirement because it does have merit.
"Requiring the SAT will motivate students to take those somewhat more difficult courses--more challenging courses--but that will help them be better prepared for success when they arrive," said Walter.
In addition to Gainesville State, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural, Coastal Georgia, Dalton State and Gordon and Macon State colleges will all return to requiring the test for admission.
