Forsyth County Fire spokesman Jason Shivers credits the six, four men and two teenage boys, with having on the proper cold weather/wet weather clothing and having floatation devices on their boat. Those floatation devices enabled them to get safely to a nearby island.
Capt. Shivers said Friday the only ill effects any of them suffered from the ordeal was some hypothermia but he added had they not been adequately prepared for such an occurrence "we could have had a real tragedy."
