Boys basketball: Dawson takes third in Battle of the States

HIAWASSEE -- Gunnar Armstrong scored 11 points to lead Dawson County to a 43-31 win over Polk (Tenn.) Thursday night in the third place in the Battle of the States tournament.

Thew Tigers (12-2) never trailed and used a 13-6 second quarter to open up a 25-13 halftime lead. Polk rallied to within 30-23 holding the Tigers to just five third quarter points but Dawson County outscored Polk 13-8 in the fourth quarter to hold on for the win.

Dawson County will play host to Rabun County Friday night in a key Region 8A-AA showdown.
