GAINESVILLE - The Lanier Canoe & Kayak Club's annual Polar Bear Swim will be held Saturday, New Year's Eve, instead of on New Year's Day, which is the traditional date for it.

This is not the first time it's been held on New Year's Eve. Such was the case in 2006 when New Year's Day last fell on a Sunday.

This will be the 16th year for the Polar Bear Swim, a fund-raiser for the Lanier Canoe & Kayak Club. Pre-registration has already closed but day-of-the-event registration will be taken. The registration fee is $25. The "family jump" fee is $50 for a maximum of four members of immediate family members (father, mother, brother, sister or a combination).

All participants receive an event t-shirt, bowl of chili and drink.

Spectators are welcome and there is no charge for spectators.
