Find out at a free car seat check later this week sponsored by the Georgia State Patrol and Safe Kids Gainesville/Hall County, which is led by Northeast Georgia Medical Center, along with the Lumpkin County Sheriff's Office, Dawson County Emergency Services, Safe Kids Dawson County and the Governor's Office of Highway Safety.
The coalition is holding check events on Thursday, from 10:00-12:00 at Wal-Mart in Dahlonega and from 2:00-4:00 at Wal-Mart in Dawsonville. Certified child passenger safety technicians will be there checking car seats and providing education on proper installation.
They will also be collecting new, unwrapped toys for the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program at both events.
"Georgia law requires all children to ride properly restrained in an appropriate child safety seat until their 8th birthday," says Kim Martin, coalition coordinator for Safe Kids Gainesville/Hall County. "We are offering this free event to help parents ensure that they are in compliance with the law and most importantly, that their children are safely secured in the car."
