GAINESVILLE - A Gainesville man will be sentenced after the first of the year after being convicted in federal court of making false statements to federal agents.

A spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office in Atlanta confirms that Charles Ricky Tomlin will be sentenced February 15.

Tomlin had been indicted on charges that he told the agents that persons posing as EPA employees were assessing him with fines for alleged environmental violations on his business property.

Tomlin was convicted after a two-day trial in U.S. District Court in Gainesville.
