GAINESVILLE -- Christmas continues to come early for the Gainesville football team.

The Red Elephants won their second coin-flip for home-field advantage in eight days Saturday, earning the right to play host to Burke County next Friday night at City Park in the Class AAA semifinals.

The two schools have never met in football.

Gainesville won a coin-flip over then-No. 1-ranked Sandy Creek last week and parlayed that into perhaps the biggest upset in the state so far during the playoffs. The Elephants whipped Sandy Creek Friday night 35-21 at City Park.

Buford, on the other hand, lost a coin-flip with Carver, Columbus Saturday and will travel to Columbus next Friday for their Class AA semifinal matchup.

The two schools have split the only two meetings between them, both coming within the past two seasons. Buford whipped Carver 35-7 in Week 3 at home. The Tigers knocked off Buford in 2010 in Columbus, 14-0, and have won 15 straight at Columbus Memorial Stadium.

Buford is 12-1 in its last 13 road games dating back to 2009, the only loss coming to Carver. Buford Athletic Director Dexter Wood said the venue did not matter as the Wolves continue their pursuit of an unprecedented fifth straight Class AA title.

"It's always nice to play at home but we'll be ready to play. It doesn't matter where as long as we're in the game," Wood said.

Both games are scheduled to kickoff at 7:30 p.m. The Gainesville game will be carried on 1240 ESPN Radio while the Buford game will be broadcast on AM 550 WDUN.
