FLOWERY BRANCH - Flowery Branch will be the first city in Hall County to offer the Sunday retail sale of alcoholic beverages.

City Clerk Marja Burney says the state has certified last Tuesday's referendum on the question, which easily passed.

So, with all the paperwork in order, convenience stores, supermarkets and other outlets in Flowery Branch can begin the sales on Sunday.

Voters in Oakwood and Gainesville also okayed Sunday sales but city officials in both are still in the process of amending their ordinances and finishing other legal requirements.

Gainesville City Manager Kip Padgett said Tuesday sales in Gainesville could begin as early as December 11.

Gainesville, Flowery Branch and Oakwood were the only cities in Hall County putting the issue to a vote last Tuesday. The Hall County Commission earlier this week scheduled a referendum on March 6, the same day as the presidential primaries.
