UNDATED - Lake Lanier is now 13.08 feet below full pool, dropping to 1057.92 early Tuesday.

As the lake level continues to decline, more and more of the amenities and businesses around the lake are suffering.

Many boat ramps are having to be closed because of the low water levels but Dawson County is touting its War Hill Park ramp which remains open.

County officials credit an extension to the ramp that was completed two years ago as Lanier was well on its way to recovering from the last drought.

Dawson County Parks and Recreation Director Lisa Henson says, "We are very fortunate to have an accessible ramp in Dawson County. Thanks to Brad at AAA Boat Repair we also have the courtesy dock in the water. Every time the water levels fluctuate, Brad moves the dock to keep up with the fluctuations."

In addition to the open ramp at War Hill, the county is reporting completion of Phase 1 of a resurfacing project at the park.

Henson said, "If you will remember, we applied for and received the Land and Water Conservation Fund Grant in 2010. The grant funds are allowing us to resurface the entire park in two phases."

"Phase 1 was the resurfacing of the parking lot at the boat ramp and Phase 2 will include resurfacing of the roadway and parking area in the day use area and campground," Henson continued. "Phase 2 is slated for completion in March and April of 2012 when temperatures are at a sustained level to support paving projects."

Dawson County's Public Works department is providing all labor, materials and equipment for the resurfacing project at War Hill. "The in-kind contributions of Public Works will allow us to maximize the grant potential while meeting the match requirements."

Although the campground is closed and the restrooms winterized for the season, the day use and boat ramp facilities are open year round.

Henson encourages everyone to take advantage of the boating and fishing opportunities available at War Hill. "Also, please pardon our progress as we continue rehabilitation of the park in the spring."
War Hill Park boat ramp is the only Dawson Co. ramp still open.
