Valparaiso (1-1), coming off a 73-64 loss to No. 16 Arizona, handed the Eagles (0-1) their first defeat in a home opener since the 1980-81 season.
The Crusaders outrebounded Georgia Southern 37-28 and hit 32 of 45 free throws, compared to 23 of 32 foul shots for the Eagles.
Will Bogan added 19 points, Richie Edwards and Matt Kenney scored 12 apiece and Kevin Van Wijk chipped in 10 points for Valparaiso, which shot 54 percent from the field (27 of 50).
Eric Ferguson scored 20 point and had 13 rebounds for the Eagles, while Ben Drayton III had 19 points. Willie Powers III scored 13 points to become the 38th member of the 1,000 point club at Georgia Southern.
