Voters heading to the polls today

UNDATED - It's election day across Georgia with voters heading to the polls to cast ballots for many city elections, Sunday alcohol referendums and more.

The "more" includes the race in Hall County for the District 25 state House seat.

Voters are choosing from seven men vying to replace James Mills, who has taken a seat on the state Board of Pardons and Paroles. The District 25 post encompasses 15 precincts south and west of Gainesville, including Flowery Branch and Oakwood and surrounding areas. Gainesville's Ward 4 is also included in that district but is the only Gainesville polling place in it.

The Sunday alcohol issue was expected to increase turnout. But Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp tells Georgia News Network it's hard to say whether that's going to happen. Kemp says as he has traveled the state, he's seen and heard very little about the issue.

In Hall County, the Sunday alcohol sales question is on the ballot only in Gainesville, Flowery Branch and Oakwood.

There are no statewide elections but based on some recent Facebook postings it appears some people are expecting to get to vote on the 9th District Congressional race when they go to the polls. Though a couple of people have announced plans to run for that post and at least one other is mulling it over, it won't be on the ballot today. That race won't be on the General Election ballot until a year from now, and after the field of candidates is narrowed in the summer primaries.
