Retired Gainesville banker, civic leader dies

GAINESVILLE - A retired Gainesville banker and civic leader has died at the age of 81.

Paul Seals died Friday night at his home.

Seals worked for 20 years at what was then First National Bank in Gainesville, now Regions.

During his career, he served as Senior Vice President, senior loan officer and Secretary to the Board of Directors. While at First National, he served as the Chairman of the North Georgia Bankers Association. After retiring from the bank, Seals was active in real estate in North Georgia, and subsequently returned to banking with Wachovia Bank and Century South.

He was an early Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Gainesville College Foundation and the President of the Small Business Development Association and, also, the United Way of Hall County. Seals was Chairman of the Hall County Chapter of the American Red Cross, and was an regular "bell ringer" during the Salvation Army's annual Christmas Kettle Campaign.

A memorial service is planned at 2:00 Monday at First Presbyterian Church in Gainesville.
