That means that for the remainder of the year, power bills for Sawnee's roughly 130,000 members should be more than $5.4 million dollars lower.
"This is great news for our members; especially after such an unusually hot summer that contributed to an increase in the energy bills for many of our members. Not to mention the fact that so many people in our area are still struggling financially due to the overall state of the economy" states Blake House, Vice President of Member Services. "We know that many of our members are seeing challenges on a number of fronts and we want to do all we can to assist them", he adds.
Sawnee EMC's WPCA factor in Rate Schedule R is used to address various costs that are not being recovered each month through the standard retail rates that each member pays. For 2011, the WPCA factor was set at $0.0170 / kWh or about $25.50 per month for the typical residential consumer who uses an estimated 1,500 kWh per month.
The change went into effect Tuesday and will reduce the WPCA factor from its previous level to $0.0 / kWh (zero), thus lowering the average residential bill by approximately $25.50 per month. Other members, who use more electricity, will see even bigger savings. The total effect of this change is a function of a person's actual energy usage in these two (2) months; nevertheless, this action should be viewed as "very good" news for all of Sawnee EMC's members.
"Sawnee EMC is committed to the principles that made this organization great; cost controls and keeping retail rates as low as possible has been, and still is today, a key aspect of that promise to our members" states President and CEO, Michael Goodroe. "We know that the potential for energy cost increases due to environmental regulations are on our horizon in the very near future, but for now we feel we can lower our members' retail rates through a lower WPCA factor and we feel it could not have come at a better time", he adds.
