The Lady Wolves will move into the consolation bracket with the loss and will play Blessed Trinity at 9:15 a.m. at the Olympic Softball Complex. A win over the Lady Titans would set up a second showdown with Pike County at 11:15 a.m. in the championship series, Buford would have to defeat Pike twice in a row to clinch a record fifth straight state championship.
Blessed Trinity knocked out Fannin County Friday with a 4-3 win after scoring a run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Buford's offense, which came into the game averaging nearly 12 runs a game in the playoffs, was limited to just three hits and could not take advantage of three Pike County errors.
Both teams scored single runs in the first and second inning before Pike County grabbed the lead with a run in the fourth. Buford had a chance to take the lead in the seventh putting runners on first and second with just one out.
Pike County, however, managed to get out of the inning getting Kallie Case to fly out and then strking out Remington Hasty to end the game.
