STATESBORO -- Georgia Southern erupted for 31 points in the second quarter Saturday and coasted to a 48-14 win over Presbyterian.

Georgia Southern (7-0) had no trouble in handling the Blue Hose (2-5), who were clearly mismatched.

While this was a non-conference game for Georgia Southern, it took over undisputed first place in the Southern Conference race as Furman upset Wofford, 26-21. It was the Terriers' first conference loss. The Eagles' next two games are at Appalachian State and Wofford.

Leading 7-0 after Robert Brown's 9-yard run midway through the first quarter, the Eagles simply overwhelmed Presbyterian in the following quarter as five different players scored.

Slotback Jerick McKinnon had two touchdowns on runs of 3 and 10 yards, quarterback Jaybo Shaw scored on a 1-yard run and cornerback Nico Hickey recovered a fumble in the end zone.

Georgia Southern's Adrian Mora, who tied the school record for most points by a kicker with 300, kicked four extra points and two field goals in the second quarter. Tim Foley had 300 points for the Eagles in the 1984-1987 seasons.

Mora got his 300th point with 13 minutes, 24 seconds to play when he made his Football Championship Subdivision 135th straight extra point following a 12-yard touchdown run by senior Miguel Gilmore who was making only his fourth career rushing attempt. Mora is also 10-of-10 on field goals this season.

Presbyterian quarterback Ryan Singer threw a 6-yard touchdown to Arthur Williams in the third quarter. and scored again in the fourth on Lance Byrd's 2-yard run.

McKinnon had 98 yards rushing for Georgia Southern, and Brown added 50. Neither played in the second half as Coach Jeff Monken pulled his starters at the half.

The Eagles finished with 504 yards total offense, 353 rushing, while the Blue Hose had 317 yards. Michael Ruff had 59 yards for Presbyterian, all coming on a first quarter run. Singer was harassed all day, but managed to complete 14-of-26 for 175 yards. He was intercepted once.
