GAINESVILLE - Voting starts this week for the November 8 elections in Georgia with early voting which begins Tuesday. That's also the day absentee ballots will be available.

By law, early voting must begin at least 21 days before an election. But counties can opt to begin before than.

Hall County is one that has been doing just that but interim elections director Charlotte Sosebee says this time around they decided to follow most of the rest of the state in order to try and avoid any confusion.

The ballots in northeast Georgia will include numerous city elections and many referendums on the Sunday retail sale of alcoholic beverages.

In addition, three state legislative races will be on the ballot: the state House 25 race for the post formerly held by James Mills of Gainesville; the state House 10 race for the seat vacated by Rick Austin of Demorest; and the state Senate 50 race for the post most recently held by Jim Butterworth of Clarkesville.

Early and advance voting will continue through October 28.

Last Tuesday was the deadline to register to vote in the November 8 election.

Any runoffs that are necessary will be held Dec. 6.
