SAUTEE -- Two people were hurt, at least one seriously, in a single-vehicle wreck on Highway 255 near Sautee shortly after 5:30 p.m.

A Mazda 3 left the roadway, striking some trees and trapping the occupants. The motor from the car was thrown some 20 feet from the vehicle down an embankment.

A male occupant in the vehicle was airlifted from the ballfield at the Sautee-Nacoochee Community Center to Atlanta Medical Center about 7 p.m. That AirLife Georgia helicopter had to come from Jasper.

A female occupant was taken by ambulance to Habersham Medical Center.

Traffic in both directions on Highway 255 was shut down for some 90 minutes, reopening shortly after 7 p.m.

Further details about the wreck and those involved were not available at the scene.
