Volleyball: Lady Dragons fall in 8-AA/A title match

ATHENS -- The Jefferson girls volleyball team finished second in the Area 8-AA/A tournament Saturday after falling to Athens Academy 3-1 in a best-of-five finals series.

The Lady Dragons will be the No. 2 seed from Area 8-AA/A and will play host to a first round match next week in the state tournament.

Jefferson began the day with a loss to Athens Academy but rallied in the loser's bracket to make the finals. The Lady Dragons knocked off North Oconee 25-13, 20-25, 25-22 in the semifinals to set up a rematch with Athens Academy for the Area Championship.

Athens Academy again proved to be too much for Jefferson winning the match 25-17, 25-18, 22-25, 25-16.

The Lady Dragons finished the regular season 31-9 overall and with Amanda Daniel and Cassie Metcalf both being named to the all-tournament team.
