FLOWERY BRANCH - Yet another candidate has emerged for the state House seat James Mills gave up Saturday after nearly 20 years in the post.

Paul Wayne Godfrey of Flowery Branch says he plans to qualify for the Nov. 8 special election today.

Godfrey spent 23 years in the Air Force, beginning as an Airman Basic in the Reserve and retiring as a Lt. Colonel.

Col. Godfrey also taught for 17 years in traditional universities and colleges including 15 years in the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG).

He earned his Doctorate degree from the Workforce Education and Leadership Department at UGA. He retired early from the TCSG, in part, he says, so he could run for public office without conflicts. He ran an unsuccessful campaign for Hall County Commission Post 1 last year.

He says he intends be a "mature, conservative voice with a good heart as well as a good head for District 25 and all of Hall County."

Godfrey says he doesn't believe in changing parties parties for convenience and has been a Democrat ever since high school when he served on Georgia Gov. Carl Sanders' Governor's Youth Council.

As a member of the state House, he says he would seek extensions of property tax exemptions for fixed income seniors, ensure workers receiving unemployment payments are able to get assisted training for a new job, fight for "veterans' receipt of their just deserts" without facing discrimination, and work cooperatively with all levels of government "to solve mutual problems."
