ATHENS - The University of Georgia Student Government Association has asked the UGA administration to drop some restrictions on campus tailgating at football games.

The SGA wants the university to drop some restrictions imposed before last season for North Campus. The rules ban tents and tables longer than 4 feet and don't permit tailgating until four hours before kickoff.

The prohibitions were announced last March, following a 2009 football season in which thousands of fans jammed North Campus before home games and repeatedly trashed the area. Officials heard the student government request last week.

Meanwhile, officials say they're concerned about behavior of football fans on South Campus, but they say they haven't discussed imposing new rules there.
