CLARKESVILLE - Habersham County has debuted a new service to communicate with people in the county in emergencies, as well as for day-to-day county business.

The Community Notification Service is called "Nixle," and it is free but you must sign up for it.

County Manager Janeann Allison says it will be used for everyday county announcements, as well as emergency situations such as weather alerts, missing persons cases, police manhunts, and so forth. Allison says it can be tailored to a specific neighborhood or disseminated countywide.

She says it's a system patterned after one being used in White County.
