State schools Superintendent John Barge proposed a plan Thursday during a state Board of Education meeting that could mean the end of the state's integrated math curriculum for some rising freshmen. He said the classes are too accelerated for some students, causing them to get behind in classes or drop out.
The state's curriculum blends algebra, geometry and other math concepts in three classes rather than teaching them separately. Barge's proposal fulfills a campaign promise to change the state's math curriculum, which was introduced under his predecessor, Kathy Cox.
The state board will vote in March.
