Joy Griffin, Vice President of Resource Development, said the "Double Your Dollars" initiative will run for one month, from Thursday, January 20, until February 20.
"We're really hoping to gain some ground with these new donations and reach our goal," Griffin said.
She added that contributions are running about $150,000 behind what was raised last year.
"We have seen some of our larger companies with significant losses (but) our local businesses and our people who are here in Gainesville who are locally owned and operated, they have really done a fantastic job."
Griffin said the $25,000 matching funds was put together by a group of existing United Way donors.
