GAINESVILLE - The City of Gainesville will waive the maximum amount for residential garbage pickup when service resumes Monday.

New rules that went into effect the first of the year limit to 96 gallons per pickup the amount of residential trash and garbage that can be collected without penalty.

"We do understand that people are going to have more garbage than usual because we have missed that service for an entire week," spokeswoman Catiel Felts said. "No one will be penalized for that. We're just going to pick up all the garbage that people put out there Monday and Tuesday."

Garbage pickup was suspended this week because of the icy roads and as sanitation workers were pressed into service helping clear roads.
