Why not the Ty-D-Bol

Now that the dust has settled on this year's 35 college football bowl games and the BCS championship, I think it's time to consider adding one more to next year's line-up: the Ty-D-Bol.

Why some marketing guru has not sold the NCAA and the makers of Ty-D-Bol on the idea I do not know. Maybe one has and it was shot down. After all, it would no doubt be the butt of many a water cooler joke, not to mention the hit it would take from the likes of David Letterman and Jay Leno. It would most likely become unofficially known as the "Toilet Bowl." But, hey, as they say "you can't buy that kind of publicity."

Besides, I've heard plenty of snickers about the names attached to some of this year's games. Meineke Car Care Bowl, $-GoDaddy.com Bowl, BBVA Compass Bowl, and the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl. These and other bowls say they have to have sponsor tie-ins to stay afloat or even get off the ground.

Even the Rose, Orange, Cotton, Gator, and Sugar bowls - the ones who used to be the only kids on the block - have sponsors attached to them though they are not a part of their official name.

So, let's hear for the Ty-D-Bol. They could call it the Tidy Bowl or the Ty-D-Bol Bowl if the marketing gurus thought calling it the Ty-D-Bol might not connect with college football purists. But what has lately.

And, of course if there ever is a Ty-D-Bol or Ty-D-Bol Bowl, there is only one place to play it: Boise State's Ty-D-Bol blue field.

(Ken Stanford is News Room Manager for AM 550 and FM 102.9 WDUN, 1240 ESPN Radio, and AccessNorthGa.com.)
